Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2024 is a dedicated awareness campaign aimed at educating people about cervical cancer, its prevention, and the importance of regular screenings.

It is important to prioritise cervical health and take steps to reduce the risk of this cancer as it is a largely preventable disease.

In support of cervical cancer prevention week, AHLab (AHL) are helping raise awareness and encourage all women and people with a cervix to attend cervical screening and know what symptoms to look out for.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust provide the following range of useful information:

At AHL we work closely with consultants and hospitals to help diagnose various types of gynaecology diseases using state-of-the-art equipment and the expertise of a highly skilled team to deliver rapid results.

AHL pathologists are at the heart of cancer prevention through screening, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment. Consultant Histopathologist Dr Nandita Gupta, is one of our experienced team at AHL whose specialist area includes gynaecological pathology.

Dr Gupta explains, “Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally. One in 130 women in United Kingdom will be diagnosed with cervical cancer in their lifetime. It is however the most successfully treatable form of cancer, if it is detected early and managed effectively.”

As Dr Gupta continues, “As part of the cervical screening team at AHL I examine samples prepared in state-of-the-art laboratory using the latest technology under microscope to look for any abnormal cell features. The result of this essential information is provided to the hospital consultant to assist with diagnosis.”

Having cervical cancer screening helps lower your chances of getting a cervical cancer. The work provided by the AHL team is an essential part of this process, helping to detect abnormal cells early and providing this detailed information to the hospital consultant, who can then decide the appropriate treatment.
