Overview of the Position
Advance Histopathology Laboratory Ltd (AHLab) is a private UKAS accredited Medical Laboratory No. 9997 in central London providing fast and reliable service of outpatient biopsies and surgical operations delivered directly to our practice.
We are looking for an efficient, highly competent, flexible member of the laboratory providing a consistently high quality and professional service. The specific aim of the Advanced Practitioner role is to work alongside Consultant Pathologist and to dissect Category B – E specimens independently and to also assist with managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. To be responsible for providing specialist knowledge, alongside technical expertise to aid in the training and development of technical staff.
This individual is expected to work as part of a team providing a timely and accurate high quality Specimen Dissection service providing independent clinical practice for category B and C specimen and Dissection of D and E specimens under training/supervision. Undertake histopathological dissection including the macroscopic description of surgical removed specimen (weight, dimension, identification for anatomical and pathological features), examination, dissection, and selection of tissue for further microscopical examination based on visible pathological features and assessment of submitted clinical details.
As competence is obtained in specimen dissection contribute as an independent practitioner. Carry out laboratory investigations and procedures and undertake further investigations/procedures based on the results as required. Apply specialised professional judgement, scientific knowledge and practical skills to complex problem solving and quality control issues and ensure that corrective actions occur in the event of non-compliance. Help in the management of the section by supervising, organising, and planning operational activities within the section and will report non-compliances to their manager. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a robust audit and slide review system for Specimen Dissection.
The Candidates must hold the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Specimen Dissection and should be working towards completion of IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma in Specimen Dissection within 12 months.
Essential Criteria:
- Completion of the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Specimen Dissection
- Completion or working towards the IBMS Advance Specialist Diploma of Expert Practice
- MSc Biomedical Science or equivalent laboratory experience.
- Substantial experience in specimen dissection
- Demonstrate the scientific and clinical knowledge underpinning the practice of either Breast, Lower GI, Skins or Gynae specimen and the practical competence required to accurately dissect all Gynae or Breast Specimens whether benign or malignant.
- Ability to train and impart their skills and knowledge to other colleagues and trainees.
