Overview of the position:
Advance Histopathology Laboratory Ltd (AHLab) is a private UKAS accredited Medical Laboratory No. 9997 in central London providing fast and reliable service of outpatient biopsies and surgical operations delivered directly to our practice.
We are currently seeking a highly efficient and competent Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our laboratory team. This individual will play a critical role in delivering a consistently high-quality and professional service. The main responsibilities of the role include working alongside a Consultant Pathologist to dissect Category B – E specimens, as well as assisting in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. The Senior Biomedical Scientist will also be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and technical expertise to support the training and development of technical staff.
In this position, the Senior Biomedical Scientist will work as part of a team to provide a timely and accurate Specimen Dissection service. This will involve independently dissecting for Category B and C specimens, as well as supervised training for dissection of D and E specimens.
As proficiency is gained in specimen dissection, the Senior Biomedical Scientist will be expected to work as an independent practitioner. This will include carrying out laboratory investigations and procedures, conducting further investigations as necessary, and applying professional judgement to complex problem-solving and quality control tasks. They will also assist in the supervision, organisation, and planning of operational activities within the section. Additionally, they will be involved in implementing and maintaining a robust audit and slide review system for Specimen Dissection.
Candidates must hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma and have extensive experience in Specimen Dissection. Possessing a Diploma of Expert Practice in Specimen Dissection or working towards completion of the IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma in Specimen Dissection within 12 months is advantageous.
Essential criteria:
- A Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology / MSc Biomedical Science or equivalent laboratory experience
- Substantial experience in specimen dissection, demonstrated scientific and clinical knowledge in a specific area of specimen dissection (Breast, Lower GI, Skin or Gynae).
- The ability to train and share knowledge with colleagues and trainees.
