Advance Histopathology Laboratory (AHL) specialises in clinical biopsies and surgical samples as well as providing specialist expertise for complex cases or second opinions. As part of our current expansion, we have recently invested in a new Leica BioSystems’ HistoCore PEGASUS Tissue Processor; so that we can further enhance our already high quality of service.

The Pegasus is optimal for an expanding laboratory, as it allows our specialists the flexibility of running parallel same-day protocols using a singular machine. The machine’s ability to analyse a myriad of tissue samples through utilising parallel processing functions allows us to sustain our high quality without interruption during our expansion.

Furthermore, its state-of-the-art technology is capable of processing up to 400 samples simultaneously allowing us to adapt to the increasing workflow to support the increase of service users. One of the most important features that the new machine has is that it is able to deliver results consistently, so we are able to ensure that our high standards can be rolled out with all results that we report back on. The Pegasus allows our specialists to maintain tissue quality while not compromising our turnaround time, allowing AHL to continue providing our clients with detailed and reliable results.

Professor Gordon Stamp, Director and Consultant Histopathologist, Advance Histopathology Laboratory said,

“By incorporating the machine into our day-to-day laboratory testing services, we are able to meet the growing demands AH Lab has. The dual retort system allows us to fit in additional testing runs without compromising the tissue quality, allowing an in-depth analysis to provide our clients with the more robust and reliable results.”

The Leica BioSystems’ HistoCore PEGASUS Tissue Processor has an inbuilt audit trail and imaging facility which helps alleviate some of the hands-on time of our staff members as well as meet UKAS ISO15189 requirements for medical laboratories.

To grow with the lab’s expanding work demand, we have also modified our entire layout. Whereas previously, the lab and office worked in tandem together in one building – AHL is evolving on a scientific and administrative basis. The lab at 47 Devonshire is being expanded into the office area to cater for increasing work demands. The office and administrative staff have moved to a second site at 41 Devonshire and incorporated communication technologies allowing both teams to operate smoothly with increasing staff and workload.
